Fruit-forward aromas of red cherries are balanced by savory notes of mushroom and baking spices from aging in French oak barrels. Beautifully structured with fine-grained tannins, an excellent example of this cool-climate growing region of Sonoma County.
This newest Castello estate vineyard is located in the sub-AVA of Green Valley, on the southwestern edge of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Situated only 15 miles from the coast, calm, foggy mornings give way to warm afternoons and cool, breezy nights, providing a perfect climate for growing Pinot Noir. Michael's Vineyard is planted with 12 acres of clones 115, 777, and Pommard 4, which are nourished by the Gold Ridge sandy loam soils of this historic district.
The 2015 vintage was of high quality, but very low yields in many varieties. The harvest will also be remembered as one of the earliest ever. The relatively dry and warm winter resulted in small clusters of grapes with highly concenrated flavors, yielding wines of deep, rich flavors and excellent quality with deep color and lovely fruit aromas. - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
