Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Rich aromas of boysenberry, dark cherry, and forest floor mingle elegantly with notes of mushroom, allspice, and hints of toffee from aging in French oak.
Vineyard Notes
This Castello Estate vineyard is located just south of the town of Boonville in Anderson Valley, a cool-climate region famed for Burgundian and Alsatian varieties. This 34 acre ranch is planted to Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling. Our Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a blend of five clones from this vineyard: 777, 115, DRC, Calera, and 667.
Winemaker Notes
The 2015 vintage was also of high quality, but very low yields in many varieties. The harvest will also be remembered as one of the earliest ever. The relatively dry and warm winter resulted in small clusters of grapes with highly concentrated flavors yielding wines of deep, rich flavors and excellent quality with deep color and lovely fruit aromas. —Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Pairs beautifully with a wide variety of foods, including mushroom tapenade, roast lamb, and braised duck breast.
