2014 Harvest at Castello di Amorosa
♦ July - Verasion in the Vineyards
♦ August 20 - Update from Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking - Harvest has begun at Castello di Amorosa
♦ August 26 - Vermentino grapes arrive at the Castello
♦ September 2 - Harvest Report - St Helena Star reports on warm temperatures around Napa Valley accelerating the harvest season
♦ September 6 - 12 tons of Chardonnay grapes arrive at the Castello. Winemaker Peter Velleno captured the moment as the grapes were being poured into one of our bladder presses, which will gently press the juice from the berries before it is sent into one of our fermentation tanks.
♦ September 10-11 - We harvested our estate Merlot and Sangiovese from the vineyards surrounding the Castello here in the Diamond Mountain District. On Thursday the 10th, we saw 17 tons of estate Merlot (much more than we were expecting!), and that evening Winemaker Peter Velleno captured these images of our vineyard team harvesting our estate Sangiovese. The cool evenings and warm days are helping to create the perfect balance of acids and sugars in the berries, and we are excited for the high quality (and quantities) of fruits coming in!
♦ September 24 - Melanson Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon arrived at the crush pad, with some of the smallest berries our winemaking team has ever seen! Winemaker Peter Velleno states that the small size of these berries will provide an added density and concentration of color and flavor to the finished wine.
