FAQ - Visiting the Castello

Visiting the Castello

Frequently Asked Questions

♦ How do I get to the Castello?

We are located 3 miles south of Calistoga (7 miles north of St Helena) along Hwy 29. Look for a large brick gate at the entrance to our driveway, along with a blue sign with our name in gold lettering along the road. Click the link below for detailed directions.
Map and Directions

♦ Where do I check in once I arrive?

You can check in to the Castello to purchase your General Admission tickets or check in for a guided tour at our Castaldo, located to the left of the main entrance once you cross the drawbridge. On busy days, we also have a secondary check in location on our Crush Pad behind the Castello. You must check in and receive your tasting or tour tickets before you can enter the Castello.
Please be advised you and your party will need to each provide a Valid Id to purchase a General Admission or tour ticket which includes a wine tasting.

♦ What time should I arrive for a Guided Tour?

We highly recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before your tour is scheduled to leave, as you will need to check in at the Castaldo in order to receive your tour tickets.

♦ What happens if I am late for my Guided Tour?

If you find yourself running late to your Guided Tour, please call the Castaldo at 707-967-6272 to let them know. If you arrive up to 10 minutes after your tour has started, we will be able to catch you up to your group; if you are more than 10 minutes late, however, we will be unable to catch you up. When this happens, you will receive General Admission tickets instead, and will be charged your original tour price.

♦ Are you kid-friendly?

We allow all ages of children at the Castello for a General Admission price of $15 which includes a cup of juice during your tasting. We also provide a table with coloring pages in our Knight’s Hall tasting room where your children can color and enjoy their juice.
Please keep in mind no minors (under 21 years old) are allowed to be at the bar itself during your tasting, and all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Please be aware that we do not allow strollers inside the Castello.

♦ Can children come on Guided Tours?

We allow children over 5 on our Guided Tours, and their ticket includes a cup of juice during the wine tasting portion of the tour. Minors under the age of 21 are required to be accompanied by an adult at all times while on the tour. Please keep in mind that while children are welcome, this is a wine-focused tour which includes an hour long walking portion followed by a 45 minute wine tasting, and we do not offer tours catered specifically for children.
We do not allow guests under 21 on our Cheese and Wine or Royal Food and Wine Pairing Tours.

♦ What are my tasting options at the Castello?

We have a variety of tour and tasting options available, including general admission tastings, guided tour and tastings, cheese and wine pairing tours, and food and wine pairing tours. Check out our “Visit Us” page for details:

♦ Can I walk around the grounds without doing a wine tasting?

We have a general admission fee of $25 for all guests over 21, which includes a complimentary tasting of five wines in our underground tasting room as well as access to the two main levels of the Castello. If you do not wish to participate in the wine tasting, we do offer a glass of our Muscat Canelli grape juice as a substitution for the tasting; however, you will still need to purchase a General Admission ticket.

♦ What should I wear if I’m taking a tour?

Our guided tours include an hour long walking tour of our 121,000 square foot castle, and much of the tour takes place underground in our wine caves and cellars. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes that you can walk and stand in for extended periods of time. A light jacket is advisable as well, as our caves are about 58°F year-round.

♦ Are you handicap accessible?

Absolutely. We are fully ADA compliant, and our facilities include an elevator that can take guests from our courtyard to our underground tasting room, as well as up one level to the covered loggia above the courtyard. Our guided tours are also ADA accessible, with gently sloping ramps leading through our underground cellars. Please be advised the guided tour includes an hour-long walking portion, so it may be advisable for guests to bring a wheelchair for those who may not be able to walk for the entirety of the tour.

♦ I’m coming with a large group. Do I need to make a reservation?

If you are visiting the Castello with a large group (8 or more people) we highly recommend calling the Castaldo at 707-967-6272 to let us know the time you are expecting to arrive, as well as the number of people in your party, so we can do our best to comfortably accommodate your group in our tasting room.

Please be advised that we do get busy in the later afternoon, and we cannot guarantee available space in our tasting room. Reservations are highly recommended for all Guided Tour options as tours can fill up quickly. Please call the Castaldo at 707-967-6272 to make a Guided Tour reservation.

For groups over 14, please contact our Hospitality Department at 707-967-7084.

♦ I’m looking to propose to my significant other while we’re visiting the Castello. Do you have a special package available for this occasion?

Absolutely! We have several proposal package options available to make your special day even more extraordinary. Please contact our Hospitality department at 707-967-7084 or hospitality@castellodiamorosa.com for more information.
